Saucony 3D Hurricane Grid 7: A Runner's Review
Spring is here, weather is warmer (and drier), flowers have bloomed and runners have emerged en mass. This is a great time of the year for runners to step up their mileage a notch or simply add an extra run or two to your weekly running routine. This is the approach that I've taken. First agenda item - my current running shoes have seen better days and it was plain to see that it was time for a new pair. After some research, as I outlined in my blog post "Time for New Running Shoes", I decided that I was going to change my running shoe brand and model entirely from the New Balance runners that I have been wearing to the Saucony 3D Hurricane Grid 7 running shoe. After discovering a few years ago how much money that one could save on buying their running shoes online, I went ahead and ordered the Hurricane Grid's online from Zappo's (and saved $50 compared to our local running store). I have now been running in my new Saucony's for about a month, and it's time to share my opinion of my new running shoes with my readers.
I have always had a hard time finding a running shoe that is really comfortable due to my wide feet. Many years ago, I switched to men's running shoes as they seemed to give some extra width. I then switched to New Balance runners as they were available in a variety of width sizes. Recently it came to my attention that Saucony runners also tended to be wider than the average running shoe and this was one of my considerations when choosing a Saucony brand shoe. The other characteristics of my feet are that I slightly over-pronate and I have a high arch.
The Saucony 3D Hurricane Grid 7's had just about everything that I needed for my foot type. Not only are they lightweight, my favorite feature is the wide toe box with a breathable mesh upper that allows plenty of room for comfort and lets the air circulate through your toes. I can really notice the difference on my runs. There is no rubbing or chaffing anywhere in the shoe. The Hurricane's also have extra stability in the heel and as I tend to have a "sloppy" run and have managed to sprain my ankle a couple of times now, I really can use the extra stability to help when my feet and ankles get lazy. Another great feature that should not go unmentioned is that the Hurricane Grid also gives the right balance of cushioning and my feet feel so comfortable during my run.
So far the furthest distance I have run in them is about 8 miles and I will definitely give them 2 thumbs up. During my run, I am not even aware that I am wearing them. There are no pressure spots here and there is no lack of cushioning. These Saucony's are managing to keep my feet at their ultimate comfort level. If they manage to turn out to be the high-mileage running shoe as promise and keep their level of comfort, I will definitely be staying with Saucony.
