What Ever Happened to the Newbalance 851?
In my opinion, the newbalance 851 had to be the best running shoe that ever existed. Of course this is the opinion of a medium to large framed marathon runner who overpronates. But judging from the amount of runners that I seen wearing the 851's, this must cover a large proportion of runners.
It's been quite a few years now since I had my first pair of New Balance 851's. I was a run leader, so got a special deal on these shoes that New Balance were promoting. Lucky for the fact that I love a deal, I stocked up and after new balance released the 852's, boy was I glad. Runner's complained bitterly to New Balance about changing the mechanism of the sneaker in the newer model, but to no avail.
Re-release of a Classic - New Balance 851
After getting all the useful life out of my stock pile of 851 runners , I desperately search for an equivalent runner and have gone through years of disappointment. All other runners paled in comparison.
Years later, and with the New Balance 851 long forgotten in my mind (not on my feet), I spotted a fellow runner wearing a brand new pair of 851's. The story that I am hearing from my New Blance buddies is that they decided to re-release these classic running shoes again. My impression is that they are just going to tease us with these sneakers and then they will be gone. I reacted with haste and ordered my pair online and I should receive them any day now.
The New Balance 851 is a great runner for high mileage runner who needs pronation control. These shoes have stability in the heel with extra flexibility and cushion in the forefoot. If you missed the 851, don't be disappointed - the New Balance 856 is the next best high mileage trainer that offers motion control for moderate to severe overpronators - also known as the "true workhorse of the shoe world". Good luck in your quest!
